More than half of the entire membership of the Marianas Visitors Authority yesterday elected four directors who would sit on the agency’s board.

The elections, held during the MVA’s membership meeting at the Dai Ichi Hotel yesterday, installed two new faces to the board: Saipan World Resort general manager Byung Ku Park and Pacific Development Inc. general manager Yoichi Matsumura.

Park, who has over 25 years of experience in the hotel industry, leads the Saipan World Resort in the hotel’s multi-million-dollar waterpark and renovation project. Matsumura has been engaged in promoting tourism-related projects in the CNMI since 1984.

The MVA membership reelected two other board members, Tasi Tours & Transportation Inc.’s Ikuo Katayama and JM & Associates’ JM Guerrero.

The election of the four to the MVA board brings the total board members to nine. Five seats are appointive posts, which are currently held by chairman David Sablan, and members Marian Aldan-Pierce, James Lin, Martin San Nicolas and Ed Maratita.

Some 177 members were represented at the membership meeting, the MVA said. The attendance surpassed more than half of the total 269 membership to constitute a quorum.
