Little League tourneys ready to playball—almost
The best young players that Saipan has to offer will go head to head with all-stars from Tinian and Rota in the 8th Annual District Little League Championship and the District Junior League Championship, but due to the due to Typhoon Tingting, they are going to have to wait a little bit longer to take the field.
All of the games were to be played in Tinian on Monday, June 28, and continuing through Wednesday, June 30, but until conditions are deemed safe and playable by league officials, the tournament will be put on hold.
The winners from the two district finals will qualify for the Asia-Pacific Regional Baseball Junior, Senior and Big League division tournaments in Guam. They will be competing against the best of the Philippines and Guam on Friday, July 9, and continue through the following Thursday, July 15.
Players from all over this part of the world will be coming to Guam for the Asia-Pacific Regional for the Major division that will be held the following week.
Beginning Thursday, July 22, and wrapping up a week later on Thursday, July 29, the finest ball players from the CNMI, Guam, the Philippines, New Zealand, Indonesia, Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, China, Taipei and Malaysia will vie for a chance to represent the region in the World Series.
For the Big Leagues, the World Series will be held in Easley, South Carolina between Friday, July 30 and Saturday, August 7.
The Juniors and Seniors will be next up, with their tournaments to begin Sunday, August 15, continuing through to Saturday, August 21. The Junior Leaguers will be playing in Taylor, Michigan while the Seniors will see action in Bangor, Maine.
The Little League Baseball World Series is the final installment of the championship series and will be played in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania between Friday, August 20, and Sunday, August 29.
