Despite stormy weather, hundreds of people came, jammed with bands, and danced their night away at Uragon Night’s concert Sunday.

“We’re so happy for the turnout. People showed up, our friends and supporters didn’t fail us. It’s a success,” said Bicol Association of NMI president Lito Marquez.

Sunday night’s concert, a fundraising project for the completion of the Bicol pavilion on Kilili Beach, featured the Big Beats band. Another band, which performs at Hot City bar in San Jose, also joined in.

Marquez said the concert was originally set to be held at the pavilion in Susupe, but due to the bad weather, it was moved to a safer and covered area in As Lito.

“Everything was set for Susupe but we could not compromise the safety of the people. Our boys had to transfer all the things to As Lito. We’re very grateful to all those who unselfishly gave their time for this event,” said Marquez.

Last Sunday’s activity was attended mostly by members, officers, and representatives of other Filipino organizations.

The party, which overflowed with food and drinks for everyone, began about 7pm and lasted till 1am.

The group said that, while the pavilion has already been built, the association still need to fundraise for some more features such as a barbecue stand. Once completed, the organization aims to turn it over to the local government. The Bicol Association began the project in 2001.

“It’s our way of giving back to the community. We’re building it for the community,” said former president Jun Dela Cruz.

BIANMI, founded in 2000, is a regional organization based on Saipan that aims to foster unity and friendship among Bikolnons in the CNMI as well as to promote cooperation with other groups and the local community as a whole.

Bicol region, located south of Luzon in the Philippines, consists of Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Masbate, and Sorsogon provinces.
