Santos, Williams crowned winners for June

John Santos and Emi Williams rolled the best scores in the June edition of the Pepsi King of the Lanes Tenpin Bowling Tournament held last Sunday and Monday at the Capital Bowling Center in Garapan.

Santos drubbed first-day leader Ador Dimaano when he bowled Monday and wound up with a four-game total of 835 pinfalls.

The Division of Public Safety officer opened up with a 223 and 215 before finishing with a 208 and 189 for an average of 208.75. His was the only 200-pinfall or better average during the two-day tournament.

A far second was veteran kegler Efren Cacdac. Starting from Lane 6, Cacdac went on to knock down 789 pins for an average of 197.25. He rolled a 211, a 189, 198, and a 191 on Monday.

Dimaano slid to third place after flirting with the monthly championship on Sunday. He wound up with a score of 785 (196.25 average) after going 235, 184, 164, and 202 on his four trips to the lanes.

Simon Manacop and Arnel Del Rosario round up the top 5 for June with totals of 779 (194.75 average) and 777 (194.25 average), respectively.

January winner Manacop bowled a 199, 238, 185, and a 157 Sunday, while Del Rosario registered scores of 182, 224, 197, and 174 when he rolled off Monday.

Santos earned $150 for winning the June competition, while Cacdac and Dimaano also pocketed $70 and $45. Manacop went home with $40 with Del Rosario was good for $35.

The rest of the Pepsi King of the Lanes top 10, with their scores in parenthesis, were as follows: Jack Cruz (753); Edgar Marquez (749); Jess Rebusada (741); Rusty Musca (739); and Dannie Robles (737).

Williams, for her part, won her third monthly championship in the women’s division after rolling a 737, which was good for a 184.25 pinfall average. She bucked an up-and-down series going 170 and 199 in the first two games before concluding with a 168 and 200 in Game 3 and Game 4.

Michelle Bondoc finished second with 670 pinfalls for a 167.5 average. Cora Muna took third (667 and 166.75 average), while Carol A. McKenzie (650 and 162.5 average) and Diane Camacho (629 and 157.25 average) closed out the women top 5.

Williams was awarded $50 for her victory, while Bondoc and Muna received $25 and $20, respectively.

The June Pepsi King of the Lanes Tournament had a total of 82 entries. The monthly bowling competition is organized by the Saipan Bowling Association and is sponsored by Pacific Trading Co. It will culminate with a year-end championship tournament in January.
