Witnesses to hold Saipan convention
In a year where religious themes and the subject of God have caught the attention of the public, the Jehovah’s Witnesses will present a convention that will center on the theme “Walk With God.”
The two-day event will take place at the Kingdom Hall in Kuales Place, Gualo Rai, June 26-27, 2004.
In a statement, the group said the program will be based on the Scriptures and “will offer encouragement to sincere individuals who are troubled by recent world events and declining moral values.”
“In view of the current spotlight on the role of religion in world affairs, the Witnesses will be outlining ways that true Christians should conduct themselves in a world of changing values,” it said.
An estimated 300-450 people of all ages, races, and backgrounds from Saipan, Tinian and Rota will hear thought-provoking talks and interviews that will encourage all to “walk with God” by living according to Bible standards. Some speakers will also be visiting from Guam.
“There will be much information to benefit families,” said Rudy Villareal, a long-time missionary in Saipan. “We invite all that can, children included, to attend.”
Saturday, the first day of the convention, will feature a Keynote Address, “Walk With God in Turbulent Times.” On Sunday morning at 10:30a, there will be a dramatic enactment of a Bible story, with participants in period dress. Another Bible talk to be given on Sunday, “Keep on the Watch’—The Hour of Judgment Has Drawn Near,” will scrutinize current events in the light of the Bible and reveal their meaning.
“Anyone who attends will really appreciate how practical the Bible is,” said Phil Nutter, who helps coordinate activities for Jehovah’s Witnesses in Saipan. “Everyone is welcome to come.”
The morning sessions will begin at 9am each day. On Saturday, the afternoon sessions will begin at 1:30pm. On Sunday, the afternoon session will begin at 1:40pm.
All convention sessions are open to the public and are free. No collection is ever taken.
