500, not 40

I appreciate the Saipan Tribune’s fine reporting of the petition to urge the Senate to immediately pass what was H.B. 14-204: The Pagan Pozzolan Extraction Act of 2004.

However, the article misreported that the “petition has reportedly been signed by some 40 people.” I don’t know where the Tribune reporter got this figure, but had spoken she spoken to me, I would have been happy to report to her that in just one day and half (Saturday afternoon to Sunday night), nearly five hundred—500—concerned CNMI citizens signed the petition urging the Senate to immediately pass what was H.B. 14-204.

We will continue to circulate this petition in the community until we present it to the Senate. The only reason the petition was not submitted to the Senate yesterday was that a funeral understandably preempted the presentation of the petition yesterday.

I would appreciate your correcting this error immediately as the misreporting gives the false impression that the public is uninformed and apathetic with regard to this issue. Nothing could be farther from the truth!
