A man is facing criminal charges at the U.S. District Court for attempting to use his brother’s passport in the CNMI.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office filed making false declarations before the court and misuse of a passport against Zheng Wen Jian.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Jamie D. Bowers alleged that Zheng presented the passport of his brother—Zheng Wen Shun—to CNMI immigration officers last May 19, misrepresenting his identity.

Two days before this incident, the defendant declared his brother’s name and date of birth apparently to misrepresent his identity during court proceedings, according to Bowers. Zheng, however, yesterday pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Chief Judge Alex R. Munson set the jury trial against Zheng beginning Aug. 16. The judge remanded Zheng to the custody of the U.S. Marshal.
