The Garapan Pedestrian Mall project got another boost from one of the businesses in the area, with Furusato Restaurant donating food for the construction crew.

Hideaki Sawada, president of Merci Corp. that owns the Furusato Restaurant in Garapan, had wanted to do something in appreciation for the workers at the project. He decided to offer lunch to all of the workers on Friday, June 11.

Sawada provided Japanese ‘bento’ style lunch boxes for the workers that included salad, vegetables, fried chicken and finadene sauce. He also included a bottle of cold water for each.

“I’m very happy with the project and I just wanted to show my support,” said Sawada.

He also said that Maeda Pacific and the Department of Public Works are doing a good job and he looks forward to the completion of the project soon.

Butch Tomboc, branch manager for project contractor Maeda Pacific, said he really appreciated Sawada’s kindness and he has enjoyed working together with Sawada and other business owners along the mall.

While eating his lunch, Ray Santos, heavy equipment operator for Ericco Enterprises said: “This is the best lunch and I hope we can do this every week.”

Jun Chamorro Camacho, safety officer for Maeda & Ericco, also enjoyed his lunch and said, “We should rotate all the eating establishments in Garapan so we can try their food, too.”

Tomboc thanked Sawada and assured that Maeda will work hard to complete the project as soon as possible.
