Municipal council lauds SSHS’ Manta Ray Battalion
The 8th Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council recently adopted a resolution commending Saipan Southern High School’s Manta Ray Battalion for capturing 3rd Place at the Annual Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps Field Day Drill Competition held on Guam last March 20, 2004.
According to the resolution, the JROTC Annual Field Day Drill Competition on Guam was attended by over 20 Drill Teams from Guam, Saipan, Tinian and Rota.
Of the competitors, Saipan Southern High School’s Manta Ray Battalion was the least experienced team that participated in the drill competition.
The Manta Ray Battalion JROTC Color Guard was represented by cadet Lt. Col. Carlo Bacago; cadet Capt. Tristan Ecal; 2nd Lt. Mark Ecal, cadet 2nd Lt. Jon Pedro; and cadet SFC Peter Duenas. Under the command of Ecal, the Manta Ray’s JROTC Color Guard took 3rd place in the category of M1903 Rifle Color Guard competition.
“The members of the Municipal Council and the people of the CNMI extend special recognition and congratulation to Saipan Southern High School’s JROTC instructors, U.S. Army Sgt. Maj. (retired) Joaquin O. Kiyoshi and U.S. Army SFC (retired) Rochard Haugh, for their military leadership in teaching the needed skills for these cadets to perform well in this drill competition.
The resolution was certified by chair Gregorio V. Deleon Guerrero and vice chair David A. Indalecio and attested by secretary Antonia M. Tudela.
