Matthew John Kirschenheiter, son of long-time Saipan residents Ronald and Gayle Ann Kirschenheiter, has graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland last May 28.

CNMI Resident Rep. Pete A. Tenorio honored Kirschenheiter’s accomplishment by attending the former’s graduation in Annapolis.

The superintendent of the U.S. Naval Academy presented Kirschenheiter with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Kirschenheiter attended Northern Marianas Academy where he graduated in 2000. He was the first nominee to be accepted for direct entry into the Naval Academy.

Upon swearing his oath, Kirschenheiter received his commission as an ensign in the U.S. Navy where he is to serve the next five years. Kirschenheiter will be stationed at a nuclear submarine base in Georgia.

“I am very proud of Matthew. He has honored the CNMI through his performance at the Naval Academy, and has a bright future ahead of him in nuclear submarines,” said Tenorio.

Midshipman Adrian A. Rempillo Evangelista, son of Antonio B. and Evelyn Rempillo Evangelista of Tinian, has also just completed his junior year at the Naval Academy. Caroline Lynch, nominated by Tenorio this year, has also been accepted into the Naval Academy Call of 2008. Carolyn will be sworn in on June 30, 2004.

Tenorio said there are still slots open for nomination at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York, and the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. CNMI residents between the ages of 17 and 23 who are interested in learning more about the academic and career opportunities offered by nomination to a service academy should contact Ana S. Teregeyo at the District Office at (670) 664-5651.
