In continuation of the Saipan Softball Association action, the Verizon Whatever and Brotherhood kept pace in the 35-and-over Softball Slowpitch League, while Freedom Air was able to soar above JMC in the Business Softball Slowpitch League, Wednesday night at the Oleai Sports Complex.

Verizon upped their record to 8-2, beating Kabaara 24-19, to stay alone in first place, while Brotherhood continued to make it an exciting race, raising their mark to 7-5 with the win over the D9ers, 11-6. The Freedom Air Flyers also moved to 7-5 with their victory over JMC, but they are still a few games behind first place D & Q Spam, 12-2.

Brotherhood was powered by homeruns from Tony Luzama, Elias Rangamar and Leo Bobai. As a team they scored 11 runs on 15 hits and went a collective 15-for-32 at the plate.

The D9ers had strong performances from Larry Tenorio who went 3-for-4 while scoring twice, and Pepi Tenorio’s 3-for-3 model of perfection.

Verizon downed Kabaara scoring 24 runs off of 24 hits and going yard five times in six innings. The Whatever is all alone atop the league, with the Islanders and Brotherhood knocking at the door. Kabaara slipped to 2-9, but their big-time player Kaleb Dulei showed up, going 3-4 with a home run.

Donald Aguon led the charge for the Whatever, going 3-3 with a homer run and a walk.

In the Business League, Freedom Air was able to hold on against JMC, winning 14-12 on the strength of an eight-run first inning. They scored five more runs in the following two innings and another in the sixth, withstanding a steady rise from JMC’s offense throughout the game.

Poland Yamada went 3-for-3 with a homer and James Itibus went 3-for-3 with a walk for the Flyers, while their teammates went 11-for-24. Dennis Cruz and Frank Camacho also hit homers for the Flyers.

JMC got it going late, but received strong performances from J.J. Laniyo (3-for-4) and Mark Toves (1-for-4, HR).
