Eco adventure camp begins June 14
Eco Camp is back for its fifth year. Located at the Mariana Resort and Spa, Eco Camp will feature activities including go- karts, horseback riding, kayaking, golf, tennis, snorkeling, arts and crafts, swimming, soccer, computers, and more.
Camp Facilities include three swimming pools, a snorkeling beach, dive pool, golf course, go kart track, arts and crafts room, buffet lunch, baseball and soccer field, and more.
Keirsten Hess is back from Lake Tahoe, California, as camp director. She headed the first camp and will return for her third season of Eco Camp. The San Diego State graduate and teaching veteran is looking forward to working with the kids at Camp.
“We continue to develop Eco Camp, not to make it just the top summer program on Saipan but in all of Micronesia. This year we will be extending our hours, so we will have staff at Camp from 8am to 5pm so parents who work can be accommodated. We also will continue working with the stables at Marianas Resort to offer horseback riding to interested campers,” said Hess.
Locally-owned Marianas Trekking manages the Camp, and its owner Chris Nelson is excited to offer Eco Camp in 2003.
“We have a great facility to work with at Mariana Resort and Spa. It’s big, and safe, the ocean water is clean, and there is a lot of space to work with. Our camp features indoor and outdoor activities, and we tailor our activities to the different age groups we serve,” he said.
“We have a great team starting with Keirsten, and we are proud to have employed a number of local residents as counselors over the last few years. Many counselors are returning from last year’s session, and some have been with us since the start,” he added.
Eco Camp runs Monday through Friday in two-week sessions throughout the summer. Ages are from 4 to 13. Special features include a pick up service, and buffet lunch option. Eco Camp is priced at $175 per two week session. Applications are available on-line at www.ecocamp.mp, the Marianas Resort and Spa, Gold’s Gym, or on Verizon’s phone bill.
