CDD exec follows up issues in DC
Thomas J. Camacho, executive director of the CNMI Council on Developmental Disabilities, was recently in Washington D.C. to attend the 2004 Office of Special Education Program Leadership Conference held May 11-14.
As chair of the Federal IDEA Part C Interagency Leadership Council, Camacho said this official trip was sponsored by the Early Childhood Program, Public School System.
He also met with Washington Resident Representative to the United States Pete A. Tenorio to discuss and seek support toward the reauthorization of the Assistive Technology Act of 1998.
The AT Act provides nearly $700,000 in federal funding to the CNMI through the Council, which administers the Assistive Technology Project and the Trankilu Alternative Financing Program.
He said the OSEP Leadership Conference provided insights and valuable information on the intent and purpose of the federal No Child Left Behind Act, as well the Federal Government Performance Results Act.
Much of the time spent throughout the whole week event was the OSEP–CNMI Continuous Improvement Monitoring Process), the Continuous Monitoring Focused Improvement Plan and the Annual Performance Report.
