Team 9, Faulker and the Cheese prevail
DPS was called to investigate reports of several inflatable rights violations Thursday night, as volleyballs continue to take a beating in the fifth consecutive Coors Light Co-ed Beach Volleyball League continued on the sand courts behind the Pacific Islands Club.
Government Cheese, Team 9 and Faulker were able to bump set and spike their way to victories, while Cyphers, Gansha and Rusty Slinkys sat at home on the couch.
The night’s first three-set showdown featured the winless Government Cheese and the not-so-giddy Givity. Givity came out to take the first set 11-6, but the Cheese took the final two 11-8 and 11-4. With the win, team Cheese had climbed into a second to last place tie with the Givity with records of 1-3. Their next opponent is the Cleveland Steamers, tonight at 6pm. Givity next faces the Cyphers on Thursday at 7pm.
The second pair of teams that duked it out in the sand was Team 9 and the Cleveland Steamers. After an hour of fiber-packed action, Team 9 dumped the Steamers in three straight sets. Team Steam dropped into a three-way tie at 2-2, while Team 9 advanced to the 3-1, in a tie with Faulker for second place.
Faulker had to win against That’s not Yogurt in order to keep pace with the Nine, and that’s just what they did. They ate up the Yogurt in a three set sweep, 11-0, 11-3, and 11-3.
Games are played Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6pm, 7pm, and 8pm through the end of the season on Thursday, June 13.
The team with the best win-loss record after eight games will be crowned the regular season champ, and a single-elimination tournament will be played Tuesday, June 15, for additional prizes.
Each team of seven players is permitted four players on the court, with the stipulation that one female be on the court at all times.
All the side-outs you can handle will be doled out again tonight at the PIC. If you would like further information about the Coors Light 4-Person Beach Volleyball League 2004, contact the Pacific Islands Club by calling 235-6231.
