SIS student tops essay contest

Sam Nepaial of the Saipan International School beat out 35 other contestant from eight schools across the CNMI in the recently concluded essay contest for 5th graders sponsored by the Pet Assistance and Welfare Services, or PAWS.

The essay contest, held as part of celebrations for Be Kind To Animals Week, is an annual activity for all 5th graders in the CNMI. The essays were judged on content and quality. There were 35 entries from eight different schools.

Nepaial is a student of Miss Chargaris.

Second place went to Crystal S. Marciano at Garapan Elementary School (Mr. Pinkerton). Honorable mentions were awarded to Melyna Luzama at Tanapag Elementary School (Ms. Babauta), Frannie Bermudes at Garapan Elementary School, and Christin Huer and Hannah Park, both of Saipan International School.

The top two winners were awarded gift certificates from Big Dipper for banana splits. For more information about PAWS many programs visit www.paws-saipan.org.

Be Kind to Animals Week covered the period from May 2 to 8.
