Garapan Head Start ends school year
The Multi-Purpose Center brought together parents and relatives of Garapan Head Start pupils for a graduation ceremony held yesterday afternoon.
Being the stars of the show, all 92 children occupied not the bleachers but the stage itself, with Garapan Head Start Site coordinator Tony Taylor opening the ceremonies by welcoming them to the stage. Teachers helped lead the children to their seats.
With the eyes of nervous parents and relatives on them, the children filled the hall with their angelic voices as they sang to the U.S. and the CNMI’s national anthem. The kids took turns at the microphone, while parents watched with anticipation.
Rabby Syed, the Head Start Policy Council representative of Garapan, conveyed his appreciation to the teachers and parents for supporting their children throughout the year.
He was echoed by Central Parent Involvement Committee president Jacinta Kaipat, who was the guest speaker at the ceremony.
Sharing more of their talents, Manny Orgato led the children with a welcoming song We Are Glad—a song that has been with Head Start for about 20 years.
Following the song, the school’s classroom teachers, including Vincent Ada, Laura Manibusan, and Ashlee Tenorio, presented certificates to the 92 graduates.
Before going home, the children performed a surprise number for their parents. Sharing with their parents what they have learned throughout their times at Head Start, the children sang their ABC’s and days of the week. As Taylor puts it, “their basic skills presentation.”
“ The kids have really done their best this year and their really excited to go off to what we call big people school,” said Taylor. (Cassie Fejeran)
