Saipan resident wins $10K lottery bonus

A surprised Saipan resident walked away with a $10,000 bonus after winning the second prize and matching the Bonus Ball drawn, for a total of $10,500, from last Friday’s lottery drawing. The winning numbers were 15, 17, 28, 30 and 31, with the Bonus Ball 7. The winner had the numbers 7, 15, 28, 31. He missed the first prize of $82,000, but was able to win additional money with the new Super Supplement with a bonus ball worth $10,000. The Super Supplemental with the bonus ball just started a week earlier and will continue every Friday.
The 41-year-old winner arrived early Monday to verify his ticket and calmly asked, “Could you check to see if I won?” After being informed that he had just won $10,500, he appeared surprised and remained speechless for a moment.
He then said, “You know, I’ve been playing for awhile and even though I never won, I never gave up. Actually, I was just hoping to even win at least the third prize, but I never thought I would win this much. I spent $10 for my lottery tickets and ended up winning $10,500.”
When asked what he planned to do with the money, he smiled and said, “I’m going to deposit it in my bank account and then I’m going to wait until the summer and maybe use some of the money to take a trip.”
The lottery offered him additional money to have his picture taken but he declined and just laughed while saying, “No thanks, I don’t want my picture taken, but I’ll let you take my picture when I win the first prize of $82,000.”
The total prizes won with the local lottery has now reached over $366,000 with winners every week. Tickets are still $1 per game with the total prize pool now at $92,000, with the first prize at $82,000 and the Bonus Ball of $10,000. The second prize is $500 for each winning ticket and third prize is $5 each. Sales close at 6:30pm on Friday’s with the live lottery drawing at 7:30pm.
