Beginning today, May 21, the Division of Public Health will hold a telephone survey that will gather information on children with “special health needs” in the CNMI. The information collected will be used to determine how the Department of Public Health can better provide care to all the children with special health needs in the CNMI.

The department is asking that parents of these children help by cooperating with telephone interviewers. It said the information sought by the interviewers will help improve the health care of children with special health needs.

“The interview will be done confidentially, and at no time will the identity of anyone in the survey be shared with the public,” DPH said in a statement.

The department said the survey is part of its continuing effort to improve the quality of health for all the children in the CNMI. By improving the health of the children, Public Health said it looks to create a healthier and safer community, one in which everyone has access to the health care they need and deserve.

“Children with ‘special health needs’ include any child who requires special attention, whether it be from asthma, autism, or diabetes to dyslexia,” the statement adds.

The survey is expected to reach more than 300 parents of “children with special health needs.” Public Health also realizes there may be many more of these special health needs children in the community that they are not aware of.

Should any parents of children with special health needs want to be a part of this survey, contact the Division of Public Health directly at 236-8703, or through the CHC operator at 234-8950.
