May is NMI Man Amko Month
The Aging Center yesterday announced the holding of a month-long celebration in May in recognition of the Older Americans Month, which will be celebrated across the United States and its territories.
In a scheduled ceremony at 11:30am today at the Aging Center, Lt. Gov. Diego T. Benavente will sign a proclamation endorsing May as CNMI Man Amko Month.
With this year’s theme, “American: A community for all ages,” a wide array of programs and seminars will be held to educate the community, especially the senior citizens on various issues.
Aging Center Coordinator Lino Olopai urged members of the community—both young and old—to participate in the month-long celebration and pay respect to the senior citizens of the Northern Marianas.
“Small gestures will help. They can visit the center, posters, banners, recognizing the Man Amko will surely make all our senior citizens very happy,” said Olopai.
Aging Center Director Joseph Palacios said major activities were mapped out for the month of May. These include, seminars on health issues, good eating habits, benefits, legal issues, mini-sports competition, and the search for the Man Amko King and Queen 2002. (Edith G. Alejandro)
