Dr. Jack: It came from the heart
“It comes from the heart.”
Showing a short, somewhat crumpled piece of paper where he wrote an unfinished draft of a statement he delivered at the Senate yesterday, acting Labor and Immigration secretary Joaquin Tenorio said he did not expect that his remarks would elicit emotional reactions from the public.
“I just felt that this is what I need to say from what I have been hearing and reading in the newspaper about people’s thoughts about me being in this office,” Tenorio said.
“If I don’t have full support — the trust from the lawmakers — then my job here could be compromised. I don’t want situations like that, because if somebody has doubts on my capabilities, on my capacity to run an organization, I would feel hesitant on doing things and that would compromise my position,” he added.
Confident that he would eventually get Senate confirmation, Tenorio also thanked his former critic, Sen. Ricardo Atalig, who earlier vowed to block his nomination. Atalig openly expressed his approval for Tenorio at the hearing yesterday.
“In fact, I think he was the first one to say…[about] the rule not to express their vote during the session,” Tenorio said. “He said that he want to change that rule because he intended to vote for me anyway. That says a lot and I appreciate that.”
