Two juvenile detainees bolted out of the Kagman Detention Center Tuesday night by outmaneuvering a detention guard during art work time.

The escapees, aged 16 and 17, reportedly waited for detention guard Hainrick J. Ogumoro to turn his back before sneaking out through an unlocked door.

The older of the two escapees was booked and detained recently in connection with an armed robbery on a Garapan poker establishment, where he was allegedly an accomplice, according to Public Safety spokesperson Lt. Pete C. Muña.

Authorities could not immediately disclose what the 16-year-old escapee was in detention for.

Muña reported yesterday that the two escapees were in the company of two other detainees at the detention center’s library when the two plotted the escape.

According to a police report, both escapees had asked the guard, Ogumoro, to escort them outside where they were supposed to spray paint their art work, as part of activities that keep them busy and productive while in detention.

While outside, one juvenile reportedly asked the guard for a red spray and just when the latter motioned to reach for the painting tool, the two quietly left the scene.

Muña said that when Ogumoro opened the door and called on the two juveniles to be where he could see them, he heard no answer from the any of the detainees.

Ogumoro told investigators that he lost sight of the juveniles and when he reached for his radio to call for assistance, it was also nowhere to be found.

The guard immediately went inside the library to secure the other two detainees and informed other guards of the two missing juveniles.

But Muña said the guards could not locate the escapees.

Police Central was tapped to assist in the search at around 8:56pm, several minutes after the reported escape.

Muña said Public Safety traffic and patrol units have been notified to be on the lookout for the two juveniles.
