2 charged with alleged child abuse
A 31-year-old man is facing criminal charges before the Superior Court on allegations that he had sexual contact with a minor under 16 years old on Tinian.
The Attorney General’s Office has filed three counts of sexual abuse of a child charges against Joseph Aguon Villagomez, a Tinian resident, on ground that he allegedly had sex with an underage female that was not his spouse.
Assistant Attorney General Barry Hirshbein, in a criminal complaint filed at the Superior Court, alleged that Villagomez engaged in sexual contact with the victim for the purpose of his own sexual gratification.
According to court documents, Villagomez committed the alleged abuses in May 2000, October 8, 2001 and another separate instance in October 2001.
Meanwhile, the AGO has also filed a child abuse complaint against Franklin R. Perez, 51, for allegedly inflicting physical and mental pain against a minor under 18 years old.
Hirshbein, who is also prosecuting the case, alleged that Perez’ acts were beyond the scope of reasonable corporal punishment in that the child’s physical and mental health and well-being were harmed or threatened.
The defendant allegedly committed the alleged abuse between November 2000 and November 2001.
Further, Perez has also been charged with assault and battery and disturbing the peace.
He has been summoned to appear in court on June 3, 2002, at 9am, with respect to the charges. (MM)
