Public Works Secretary Juan S. Reyes yesterday said the department has started paving the 6,270-square-meter parking lot fronting the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium in Susupe, as part of efforts to enhance the tourist attraction power of the sports facility.

Reyes said that once pavement work is completed, the department, together with the Marianas Visitors Authority, would be putting up plants and flowers on the long parking stretch.

“This is the first time we’re doing landscaping in coordination with the MVA,” Reyes said.

The pavement project costs over $200,000.

Reyes said he had placed island beautification as one of the department’s top priorities since the Commonwealth’s economy continues to be heavily reliant on tourism.

Recently, the department also placed plants and flowers on an intersection of Middle Road. A yellow line was also painted on the sidewalk not only for road beautification but also for motorists’ safety.
