A Kagman resident complained last week that a woman sold her $40 worth of tickets for an Easter raffle that never took place, police said.

The complainant, Antonia Ilal Nicky, 26, said one Sherry Teigita, 25, allegedly came to her house in Kagman I last March 26, 2002 to sell her Easter Bonanza raffle tickets that the latter claimed was being sponsored by the Northern Marianas College.

Public Safety spokesperson Lt. Pete C. Muña said the suspect reportedly told the victim that the raffle was to be staged at the Kilili Beach on March 31, 2002.

Nicky told police the raffle never took place, and when she confronted Teigita about it, the younger woman allegedly changed her story about the raffle tickets.

Teigita reportedly said that “the raffle was for her friend, Merna Cruz, and that if Merna sold all the tickets, she would get 50 percent from the ticket sale.”

The victim demanded the suspect for a refund of her $40 but the suspect asked for more time, Muña quoted a police report.

Nicky gave Teigita until April 15, 2002 to return the money but the suspect reportedly hasn’t done so as of press time. (Marian A. Maraya)
