Man in San Antonio robbery goes to jail
A man who pleaded guilty to snatching someone’s purse in San Antonio last year was sentenced to serve a prison term of two years and five months.
Superior Court Associate Judge Juan T. Lizama remanded defendant T-Knight Sanders Sasao, otherwise known as Mischol, to the custody of the Division of Corrections, after the defendant pleaded guilty to robbery and other charges last week.
After plea negotiations with the government prosecution, Sasao, with aid of Assistant Public Defender Jeffrey Moots, owned up to charges of robbery, conspiracy and resisting arrest, in connection with a purse-snatching incident at the UIC garment factory last September 5, 2001.
Pursuant to the plea agreement, the government through Assistant Attorney General Barry Hirshbein dismissed the other charges against Sasao.
Lizama, in a judgment and commitment order, directed Sasao to a total 123-month jail term, to be served concurrently, based on all three charges. But the judge suspended the sentence to 30 months and 15 days.
Sasao has been ordered to undergo supervised release for ten years and three months after he comes out of jail.
The court also directed the defendant to pay $500 in fine, an assessment fee of $100, a probation fee of $100 and $400 as restitution to the victim.
The defendant has been required to devote 200 hours of his time to community service, as well as, write a letter of apology to the victim. (MM)
