Puppy killed in domestic quarrel
A puppy became a casualty in an intense domestic dispute last Wednesday between a couple residing in As Perdido, police reported.
The dog died after suspect Roman Villanueva Cabrera, who was apparently drunk, stepped on the animal during a row with his 20-year-old wife, said Public Safety spokesperson Lt. Pete C. Muña.
Cabrera, 28, allegedly trudged on the helpless animal until it died, after he punched his wife on the face.
The couple’s quarrel reportedly stemmed from the suspect’s suspicions that his wife was having an affair with every man that came over to their house.
The wife, who was enraged by the accusation, turned the tables around and accused her husband of the same thing, Muña learned from a police investigation.
Cabrera then allegedly began yelling profanity at his wife. Muña said that the suspect also slapped his wife twice and punched her on the mouth.
Police noted that the victim suffered a swollen lip and injuries on the upper chin area.
A relative told authorities that Cabrera, after delivering the last blow against his wife, stepped on the puppy until it died.
A responding officer at the scene noted that he saw a dead puppy inside a bucket.
Muña said that upon seeing the police officer, Cabrera repeatedly uttered: “I know why you are here. It’s my fault.”
The suspect not only admitted to the wrongdoing but he also urged the police officer to go ahead and arrest him, Muña said.
Prior to the incident, Cabrera reportedly went drinking at a relative’s house near their residence.
