Kagman needs new textbooks
The Public School System recently approved the release of about $60,000 in total funds for the procurement of more than 600 textbooks needed by students of the newly-opened Kagman Elementary School.
School principal Ignacia Demapan disclosed in an interview yesterday that procurement of more than 600 language and arts textbooks are now underway.
Only recently, PSS also approved the procurement of new textbooks on Science, Mathematics, and Social Studies, Ms. Demapan added.
However, the school administration needs to stretch its budget to afford procurement of at least 25 Science safety kits. She said orders were earlier placed but were called off due to a budget shortfall.
“We are lacking in materials, but once we have the textbooks all basic programs should be in place. These basic programs are adopted by the PSS,” said Ms. Demapan.
Apart from textbook problems, students are likewise forced to answer reproduced worksheets and workbooks since the school’s allocation is not enough to purchase the materials.
“We have been photocopying a lot of materials for all subject areas. We will try to buy these workbooks so that students can have them,” added the newly-installed Kagman school principal.
Old textbooks were replaced and Kagman has been trying to expedite the procurement of new edition textbooks for students. With the new textbooks, Kagman students will be able to standardize the use of the basic program enforced by the school system.
Yesterday, Ms. Demapan was given a go signal by PSS officials to place orders for the Language Arts textbooks for signature programs.
Kagman schools needs a total of 604 Language Arts textbooks.
Last year, Marianas High School was figured in the same dilemma after students complained of the unavailability of textbooks in several subject areas.
MHS only received few copies of Language and Arts textbook, New Literature, Psychology books and the NMI History Books and some of the Mathematics books.
Initially, MHS received 400 copies of the CNMI History books but awaiting for the arrival of the 200 copies of World History books, 200 copies of World Geography, 200 copies of American History, 70 copies of Civic, 70 copies of US government, 120 copies of Pacific History waiting, and the remaining copies of the Mathematics books and Sciences.
But PSS assured that all needed textbooks will be available in due time as efforts to procure additional books for K-12 students were beefed up. (EGA)
