Action invades Rocball championships

The 2001 World Rocball Championship playoffs will begin April 23. In the men’s division, Dx will play the Ghasias Brothers and the Islanders will play the Covered Girls in the women’s division.

The DX knocked off MHS’ faculty team, Give-a-Hoot in the best of two out of three games to be the first men’s team to make it into the finals. In the second semi-final match up for the men’s division, the Ghasias Brothers defeated the Jammers in three games to earn the right to challenge DX for men’s championship title.

In the semi final games between DX and Give-a-Hoot, DX won the first game juice in four sets, 45 to 34. In the second game, Give-a-Hoot rebounded from their first loss of the year and defeated DX in juice, 55 to 34. In the third game, neither team was able to juice. Give-a-Hoot was leading in points but DX won the and prevented Give-a-Hoot from juicing out.

In overtime, O-kon, where is game is won by ten points or a goal, both teams needed to win two O-kons to win the game. In first O-kon, Lysander Taisican scored a goal for DX for the win which gave them a one set advantage.

However, in the second O-kon, Tyce Mister of Give-a-Hoot scored a goal for the win and evened up the O-kon play at one set each. In the third and decisive O-kon, DX was one point in the hole when Earnest Rangamar scored a goal for the set and the victory.

In the three game series between DX and Give-a-Hoot, there were in total, 34 aces, 7 xunks, 63 kees and 11 goals scored. Tyce Mister of Give-a-Hoot was the series heavy hitter with 14 aces, 1 xunk, 12 kees, and 2 goals for 60 points.

In the two out of three semi-final games between the Jammers and the Ghasias Brothers, the Jammers outscored the Ghasias Brothers in the quarter/set system of play but failed to win the fourth set and were forced into Okon. In O-kon, the Jammers won the game 10 to 0 in the first set and a goal by Phillip Rudolf in the second O-kon gave the Jammers the first game victory.

In the second game, the Ghasias Brothers juiced the Jammers in four sets juice 52 to 40. In the third and final game of their series, the Ghasias Brothers outplayed the Jammers in the first three sets of regular play but failed to close out the fourth set. The Jammers won the fourth set and forced the Ghasias Brothers into O-kon.

In O-kon, the Ghasias Brothers had the advantage. All the G-Brothers had to do is win one O-kon. The Jammers needed to win three O-kons to win the game. And the Jammers did win the first two O-kons 11 to 1 and 10 to 1. In the third and final O-kon, the Ghasias Brothers were seriously quiet. Both team played extremely well. Which ever team won the third O-kon would win the game and advance to the finals. Both teams played extremely well.

The Ghasias Brothers had the advantage and were at set point 9 to 8. The Ghasias Brothers had the serve, the Jammers successfully defended off the serve, the Ghasias Brothers set up a counter attack and Freddy Pelisamen at the net with a little finesse, dinked the ball over a Jammer player and the G-Brothers won the set and game.

In the three game series between the Ghasias Brothers and the Jammers, there were 29 aces, 11 xunks, 86 kees, and 4 goals scored. Phillip Rudolf of the Jammers was the series heavy hitter with 7 kees, 3 xunks, 21 kees, and 2 goals for 68 points.
