Saipan junior golfers fare well in Guam tournament
Five of Saipan’s finest junior golfers played well during the recently concluded Guam Optimist Championship Series Golf Tournament held at the Talafofo International Country Club in Guam.
The tournament, which was a stroke play event held over 18 holes with the top two place finishers going on to Florida in June to participate in the World Optimist Championship, drew over 70 participants in four different age categories.
In the boy’s 10-11 bracket, Guy Mosley shot a score of 91 to finish in third place, one shot behind the second place finisher. His fellow Northern Marianas Junior Gold League member, Thorn Sablan, shot a score of 97 to finish fourth among the 14 players that participated.
Byung Hwang, on the other hand, finished in fifth place in the boy’s 14-15 age group after scoring an 82 from the championship tee.
In the 16-17 age group, Anthony Klinge and Daniel Nevitt came away with scores of 88 and 89 respectively, good enough to finish in the middle of the pack after being ranged against Guam’s finest junior golfers.
The five golfers from the Northern Marianas Junior Golf League is extending their gratitude to DFS Saipan Limited, Pacific Island Aviation, and the Guam Junior Golf League for making their participation in the event possible.
The junior golf league also would like to thank the generous contributions of the Commonwealth’s business community for their support of the organization since its inception.
The Northern Marianas Junior Golf League was formed in 1997 and since then has enrolled over 400 children in its program. It will again stage golf lessons for aspiring golfers in May of this year. (MR)
