The Public School System Central Office has found a new home at the new Retirement Fund building on Capitol Hill, finally giving up its Nauru Building headquarters.

The agency’s big move to the northern part of the island, closer to more government offices such as the Governor’s Office and the Legislature, is expected to expedite more business transactions with other public agencies.

The PSS central staff under its posh new surroundings occupies the entire NMIRF third floor building and two-thirds of the second floor level.

Now occupying a more compressed working area as opposed to the PSS staff’s dispersed existence at Nauru building, double efficiency in operations is anticipated to transpire among central staffers, according to PSS Capital Improvement Projects Coordinator Chris Fryling.

“Now we don’t have to run around with people scattered around the building. We’re just a floor away from each other,” he said.

After being given approval to move in last Thursday, PSS has since been preoccupied setting up its working space at its new Capitol Hill office.

The decision for the central office to move to its new location was a long process that took months to a year of extensive research and impact studies.

“Because we’re a public institution, we had to look at all possibilities on the island. We looked at some of the other vacancies including Nauru and the possibility of re negotiating. It was a long process because there weren’t that many buildings big and reliable enough,” said Mr. Fryling.

The PSS team had to consider all requirements including the electrical system, Americans With Disabilities Act structure compliancy, security, and parking spaces.

The Retirement Fund building is one among limited structures on island capable of hosting PSS’ newly-installed broad band Internet connection system, according to the CIP coordinator.

The cost of renovating the working area was also cheaper compared to other alternatives PSS had considered.

The edifice is also ADA compliant, equipped with ready building security, and an ample 150-lot parking spaces.

Mr. Fryling added the location of the new PSS headquarters is still fairly central and accessible.
