This ordeal suffered by a Chamorro family should stir a warning to CNMI folks — to never leave their homes unattended.

After returning from an overnight’s stay at a relative’s house, the family of Roque P. Castro discovered their wood and tin structure home razed to the ground Saturday.

Mr. Castro, in a statement issued to authorities, said he and his family left for Marpi to visit his father who was ill the day before.

When they came back the next day, they found their home literally burnt to ashes.

The 42-year-old said all their belongings tucked inside perished along with the house.

The victim further noted that his house did not run on electrical power, apparently ruling out faulty wiring as the root of the mishap.

Police are still investigating the cause of the blaze.

Department of Public Safety fire investigators were dispatched to the scene to examine the burnt structure. (MM)
