Inos is Fitial’s running mate • Seasoned educator complements Covenant Party’s campaign platform
Strengthening its campaign platform to make education for all a priority, Covenant Party has chosen known educator and Public School System Commissioner Rita H. Inos to run with House Speaker Benigno R. Fitial in the November general polls.
Well-placed sources from Covenant Party confirmed that Dr. Inos will run for lieutenant governor to fortify the political group’s victory in what seems to be the most hotly-contested election in the Northern Marianas.
The tandem of Speaker Fitial and Dr. Inos completes the party’s program to alleviate the economic condition of the Northern Marianas through strengthened and improved access to quality education for all.
An acclaimed educator, Dr. Inos has served under the Pacific Resources for Education and Learning. She is involved in various programs that aim to empower women and protect the rights of the children.
As an education commissioner, Dr. Inos strongly pushed for the institution of the Stanford Achievement Test 9th Edition which puts tabs on the average standing of students in comparison to the national standards.
Her candidacy is expected to be publicly announced during the party’s launching on Saturday to coincide with the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Covenant in Political Union with the United States.
The newest addition to the Commonwealth’s string of political groups, the Covenant Party will officially launch in a historic three-island kick-off.
Mr. Fitial, along with other Covenant Party candidates and officials, will travel inter-island to rally with supporters on Rota and Tinian. The kick-off will conclude in a grand finale fiesta on Saipan tomorrow night.
Party Chair Eloy S. Inos said the launching of the new political group marks the beginning of a new vision for the Northern Marianas. “We’re gearing up for a big celebration, a party for all people.”
“We thought it is very appropriate to launch the party on the anniversary of the most important document governing our islands, Covenant Day, March 24,” said Mr. Inos in a prepared statement.
Party officials said Mr. Fitial’s vision to empower the Commonwealth economically through the expertise and extensive knowledge of Dr. Inos in the education sector gives the tandem a win-win edge.
The tandem of Mr. Fitial and Dr. Inos joins three other pairs of candidates vying for the Commonwealth’s two highest seats of government.
A seasoned lawmaker, Mr. Fitial enjoys the strong support of the business community due to his optimistic visions on the capabilities of the local economy to flourish given the right utilization of available resources.
From the time he first joined public service, Mr. Fitial has been a consistent advocate of business growth through the advancement of the quality of education in the CNMI, which he believes would bring about skilled and knowledgeable local economic managers.
On the other hand, the education sector led by herds of teachers rally behind Dr. Inos whose vision is focused at delivering quality education for all residents of the Northern Marianas.
The Covenant Party is confident that Mr. Fitial’s and Dr. Inos’ assumption into the highest seats in the CNMI government would pave the way for a strengthened Commonwealth economy, better educational system, and lower cost of living for all Northern Marianas residents.
Highlighting the islands’ potentials for growth, Mr. Fitial vows to commission a new economic development panel whose sole priority is to attract five new major businesses to the CNMI within the first year of his administration.
The Covenant Party believes that turning the economy around would never be possible without the needed improvement in the delivery of educational services to the community, which should keep local students at pace with technological advances in other parts of the world.
“I plan to institute an aggressive education plan that will ensure CNMI students of all ages have the same access to learning tools that are available in other areas of the world,” emphasized Mr. Fitial.
Both Mr. Fitial and Dr. Inos are firm believers of the ability to advance the plight of his constituents through education, augmented by knowledge and skills on information management and other areas of technology.
