Who would have thought that a well-orchestrated criminal operation involving one of the Commonwealth’s key government agencies could be masterminded by teenagers under 15 years old?

Police yesterday apprehended two main suspects to the burglary of the Department of Labor and Immigration in San Antonio Tuesday, who happen to be a pair of 13- and 14-year-olds.

The Department of Public Safety reported the attempt to rob the agency apparently began as early as Monday but suspects only succeeded in gaining entry into the second floor office Tuesday night.

The juveniles were arrested separately by authorities Wednesday, where they admitted to breaking into the DOLI office through one of the bathroom windows.

Police reports reveal that the 13-year-old suspect resides in the village of San Antonio while the other juvenile was within school premises at the time he was nabbed. It was not disclosed where the boy attends school.

Records also show that it was the younger juvenile who reportedly pinpointed to authorities his accomplice in the break-in.

Recovered from the boys were a hand held radio and several compact discs belonging to employees of the labor office.

Reports that the DOLI office was burglarized erupted Wednesday when employees found their workplace in a disarray early that morning.

Work and transactions with the labor office had to be suspended until the afternoon of March 7, as authorities tried to dig deeper into the circumstances behind the unfortunate incident that left one half of the second floor ransacked.

In an earlier interview with former Labor Secretary Thomas Sablan, he noted that they had found one wing of the second floor office in a state of disorder when they reported to work.

The Acting Director of Immigration also disclosed the agency with aid from police are set to conduct an inventory of the things that are missing from the office since the incident.

Department of Public Safety spokesperson Cecil Celes, in a separate interview, reported that the only item accounted missing since Wednesday afternoon was a ring belonging to one of the employees.

Witnesses attested that the suspects apparently helped themselves to some candy treats left on an employee’s table, including soda pops while they administered their acts of crime.
