If you are being offered to buy an item at a very low price, think twice. The item may be stolen and you might end up facing criminal charges.

This was the lesson learned the hard way by a Korean man who now faces two-count criminal charges before the Superior Court in connection with the acceptance and sale of items that were reportedly stolen from its rightful owners last November 27, 2000.

Seo Joon Hyung of 24-Hour Pink Pawn is being accused of receiving stolen property and being an accessory to the crime for allegedly committing theft by purposely receiving, retaining, or disposing of a computer unit with the value $250, knowing that the property has been illegally obtained or stolen.

The 36-year-old suspect is also facing charges for allegations that he was an accomplice to receiving, relieving, comforting or assisting the offender in order to hinder or prevent the original perpetrator’s apprehension, trial or punishment.

Mr. Hyung has been summoned to appear in court to answer to the charges on March 12 at 9am.

Department of Public Safety officials are steadfastly warning pawnshop owners against accepting stolen items in their establishments as they will be criminally prosecuted.

The Criminal Investigation Section has carried out a number of raids in several pawnshops on the island following reports that the robbers sold their stolen goods in these establishments.

DPS Capt. Delbert Sablan had warned that it is a crime to accept stolen goods.

Last January, police raided the 24-Hour Pink Pawnshop in Chalan Kanoa, owned by a Korean on allegations that stolen computers were sold there.

Capt. Sablan said the items brought to these pawnshops include industrial equipment, gardening tools and golf set.

Investigators had checked the list of reported stolen items in the robberies committed last year and ask the victims to inspect if the equipment confiscated during the raids in the pawnshops belong to them. (MM)
