Young man faces drug possession raps
A 22-year-old Chamorro man has been charged with two counts of delivery and illegal possession of controlled substances stemming from an incident that occurred two years ago.
Defendant Daniel M. Quitugua from Kannat Tabla faces criminal raps before the Superior Court for his alleged involvement in the delivery of methamphetamine hydrochloride or ice on Aug. 19, 1999.
Court papers reveal that on that same day, the suspect was also found in possession of marijuana. The government has summoned Mr. Quitugua to appear in court to answer to charges flung against him beginning March 12, 2001.
The Commonwealth’s fight against illegal drugs continue amid the apparent rise in controlled substances abuse especially among the younger generation.
Just last Feb. 19, police found a group of local teenagers in possession of marijuana while cooped up inside a green sedan that was parked at a disability parking space at Gold’s Gym in China Town.
The vehicle’s 17-year-old operator was discovered apparently parked in a space designated for persons with disabilities without the proper documentation to show for it.
After citing the young man for illegal parking, authorities detected six packs of beer on one of the occupant’s lap.
Police sought the passengers’ permission to search the automobile’s interior which led to the discovery of green leafy substances and small seeds.
When officers searched further, they found a wooden box filled with what appeared to be more supply of controlled substances under the minors’ possession.
Police only arrested the 17-year-old driver after confirming that the group carried marijuana.
Meanwhile, two young individuals from the island of Rota also face minor consuming charges before the Superior Court for allegedly consuming alcoholic beverages last September 24 to 25, 2000.
Both defendants have been summoned to appear in court on March 2, 2001 to answer the charges. (MM)
