Focus on Education Caring for Gifted and Talented Children

In our endeavor to afford all children a good education, one group is often slighted. While we spend much time and money in educating students, the gifted and talented students are almost neglected. These students are born with a combination of high intellectual ability, creativity, memory, motivation, physical dexterity, social adeptness, and aesthetic sensitivity. These qualities give them an advantage in performing in the arts, sports or academic field. Yet are we in the PSS and in the community paying attention on how to educate them so that they achieve the high levels of excellence they are capable of?

Outstanding talents are present in children and youth from all cultural groups, across all economic strata, and in all areas of human endeavor. The Jacob K. Javits Gifted and Talented Student Education Act of 1988 (PL 100-297) defines the current knowledge and thinking about special children:
