NMC joins Pacific Association for Voc Ed
The Northern Marianas College recently joined hands with representatives from across the Pacific region to create the Pacific Association for Vocational Education (PAVE).
This association has pledged to increase the awareness and support fro vocational education and training throughout Micronesia and the Pacific region, and it has the support of the US Department of the Interior’s Operations and Maintenance Improvement Program.
NMC Dean of Continuing Education Ed Camacho and NMC Vocational Director Dr. Jack Angello attended a federally-sponsored Pacific vocational meeting in Palau.
Both were encouraged by the consensual agreement by all the Pacific area attendees — Guam, FSM, Palau, Republic of the Marshals and the US OMIP representative from Hawaii — that there is a definite need for the increased support of vocational education from the various Pacific area leaders.
According to Dr. Angello, vocational training is a must situation in the Pacific region, and the apparent lack of it’s support is baffling.
“Vocational training means better self-reliance and self-confidence in isolated island areas, and I’m encouraged by the recent commitment by PSS to push these vocational programs,” Dr. Angello said.
He added that he feels this successful commitment will be linked to the government leaders “financially supporting our joint NMC/PSS 2+2 programs, which were working just fine in the past until the funding was cut.”
