The Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council paid recognition to two individuals who have recently been appointed to take on more challenging and vital roles in the Commonwealth government.

Council resolutions were presented yesterday to newly-installed Public Auditor Mike S. Sablan and newly-appointed member of the National Advisory Committee on Minority Health Dr. Isamu Abraham.

In accepting the award, Mr. Sablan vowed to work in the interest of improving the government and pursue what former Public Auditor Leo LaMotte has started.

Last December, members of the Senate and House of Representatives unanimously confirmed Mr. Sablan’s appointment as CNMI’s public auditor in accordance with the constitutional requirements for the OPA position.

Dr. Abraham, special advisor to the public health secretary, was nominated by Gov. Pedro P. Tenorio and Joseph Kevin Villagomez last November 1999 to be a member of the prestigious National Health Advisory Committee established by the US Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Donna Shalala.

The committee has created to eliminate the racial and ethnic disparities in health issues across US mainland states and territories.

Last Dec. 28, 2000, Ms. Shalala announced the appointment of Dr. Abraham and 11 other individuals to be the first ever members of the National Advisory Committee on Minority Health

According to the council resolution, the Commonwealth is proud of the appointment of Dr. Abraham into this pioneering group of selected National Advisory Committee on Minority Health members and for bringing national distinction and honor to the CNMI. (MM)
