Council: Preserve sports facilities

Members of the Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council have taken a keen interest in the preservation of Saipan’s recreational facilities and has tasked the Division of Sports and Recreation to step up efforts in overseeing its maintenance.
Council members introduced this month a resolution instructing Sports and Recreation Director Bill Sakovich to conduct periodic inspections of all basketball courts and sports facilities in the villages of Saipan in order to sustain its good and safe condition.
The council threw this challenge to Mr. Sakovich as head of the agency that has control and jurisdiction over all basketball courts and other sports facilities on the island where the islands’ youths gather to unwind and hone their potential as sports athletes.
Council Chair Gregorio V. Deleon Guerrero, Vice Chair David Indalecio, and Secretary Jesus Sn. Lizama strongly believe that providing extra curricular activities to the youths through the use of existing sports facilities will enhance their strong desire and commitment to become leaders in CNMI community.
