Small boat marina in Rota mulled
Discussions are now underway between officials of the Commonwealth Ports Authority and the Department of Land and Natural Resources for the development of a marina at the Rota West Harbor.
Both CPA and DLNR are now reviewing the provisions contained under a proposed Memorandum of Agreement which would pave the road for the creation of a small boat marina at the West Harbor Rota.
Under the proposed MOA, CPA would give DLNR a permit to develop, improve, operate and manage a small boat marina at its unused property situated at the island’s West Harbor.
The project, which kicked off with the rehabilitation of the West Rota Harbor, will be funded through local and federal appropriations.
Rota Ports Manager Benjamin M. Manglona said the project would clear the way for the much-needed repair of the harbor, as it would also help local fishermen through use of the improved facility.
In a letter to DLNR Resident Director Eusebio A. Hocog, Mr. Manglona said CPA would like to finalize the agreement which will officially allow DLNR to operate the marina operation at the island’s seaport.
The proposed marina will be developed on a 44,864-square foot of property owned by the ports authority in the vicinity of the causeway connecting West Harbor Rota and Anjota Island.
According to the draft MOA, CPA gives DLNR a 10-year permit to the property for the development and operation of the small boat marina, which will be built according to a design that will be submitted to and approved by the ports authority. (ARF)
