Bake shop owner charged
Assistant Attorney General Harold Pickering yesterday filed criminal charges against Romeo P. Agbanlog, owner of Blooming J. Corp. which operates Andrea’s Bake Shop.
Mr. Pickering accused Mr. Agbanlog of harboring and employing an illegal alien, Jacinto G. Bermejo, from July 1, 1999 to Dec. 12, 2000. Mr. Bermejo works as a baker, salesman and delivery person for Blooming Corp.
At the same time, Mr. Agbanlog also failed to pay the wages of nonresident worker Tomas Batuyong Ponce from Nov. 1, 2000 to Dec. 1, 2000.
Furthermore, Mr. Bermejo and his wife Alice were charged with unlawful employment for working without proper documents. Alice Bermejo also worked as a baker/manager.
Manpower agency operator sentenced
Superior Court Associate Judge Juan T. Lizama yesterday ordered Mohammed Kamaruzzaman to one year imprisonment with seven days suspended for time served after he pled guilty to the offense of failure to pay wages as charged in Count 105 of the information.
Mr. Kamaruzzaman, along with four other defendants, faces a total of 147 counts of criminal charges. He operates Bangel Security, Asia Pacific and New Protection Services.
As a result, the government moved to dismiss the other charges in the information. Mr. Karamaruzzaman was ordered to pay a fine of $500 and pay restitution to nonresident worker Mofizur Rahman an amount to be determined later by the Attorney General’s Office.
Attacker of wedding guest released on bail
Superior Court Associate Judge Juan T. Lizama ordered the release of Raymond Blas Camacho in the custody of his father during a bail hearing yesterday.
Mr. Camacho, 29, is facing charges of aggravated assault and battery, assault and battery, resisting arrest after he caused a riot in a wedding reception at Taga Beach on Dec. 17, 2000.
During the reception, Mr. Camacho got drunk, picked up a fight and hit Esperidion Dela Cruz Pajarito, Jr.
