Demapan is SGA Golfer of the Year
The Saipan Golfers Association has finally completed the year’s most prestigious tournament event with no other than Joe S. Demapan capturing the Golfer of the Year title, including cash prizes, trophies and other gift items.
Demapan shot an astonishing two-day performance with a total gross score of 155. The Coral Ocean Point golf course fairway and greens were in perfect condition for the event except for day two with scattered rain showers throughout the day.
Demapan shot 36 front and 40 in the back on day one, and 42 front and 37 back on day two for a total gross of 155. His handicap of 14 gave him the winning title at net of 141.
Next in line was Eun Jung who shot a combined score for the two day event at 186. Jung’s handicap is 20, and the two days combined gave him the second place with a total net score of 146.
Last year’s defending champion Brian Reyes came in third place with a total gross score for the two day event at 153. Reyes’ official handicap is 3 and for two days at 6 gave him a net score of 147. Demapan was also the champion for the year 1998.
In other areas, Judge Edward Manibusan captured 5 greens for during the two-day event while Demapan again maintained consistency taking away two greens as well. Jess Castro took home one green, while Joe Kamikaze one green.
After the tournament, SGA held a brief meeting with the members present and SGA president Ray Diaz called on the members for the nomination of a new president for the year 2001.
Norbert Sablan was elected as the new president for the year 2001. He will begin to reorganize the board for an official meeting come Jan. 5th, 2001.
