The Athletes of the Month for November 2000 were selected by the Northern Marianas Amateur Sports Association at their recent meeting.

Athletes of the Month

Male Tony Guerrero, baseball. Tony plays for the Kautz Glass Glazers and led his team to second place in the recent Summer Baseball League. Tony won four titles, batting average of .489, RBI’s of 36, the most home runs and the Most Valuable Player for the league.

Female Janet Stearns, yachting. Janet was crew with her husband Tony, took 3rd place in the Japan Hobie Cat Nationals held in Hayama, Japan in early November. This was the 8th time they have competed in this event and their best finish ever.

Student Athlete of the Month

Male None

Female Young-Mi Mayer, volleyball. Young-Mi currently plays for the Hornets Volleyball team in the Youth Volleyball League, and participated in recent Far East Volleyball Tournament taking 10th place out of 20 teams. Young-Mi was selected for the All Star team and was captain of her team.

Tony Stearns was nominated for Athlete of the Month for his 3rd place finish in the Japan Hobie 16 Nationals held in Japan, and was the male runner-up.

All Athletes and Student Athletes of the Month for the 2000 will be honored at the annual NMASA awards banquet to be held at the Pacific Gardenia Hotel on Jan. 23, 2001. The Pacific Gardenia and Microl Corporation and co-sponsoring the event along with NMASA. All Athletes of the Month and Student Athletes of the Month are invited to attend.
