Janis Joplin and Stevie Nicks (real names Heather and Kari) played stellar volleyball to outlast the duo of Linda Ronstadt and Lisa Lisa and the Cult Jam to capture and win the 1st annual SportsRock Grass Volleyball Open Women’s Division at the Mariana Resort.

“All the girls were on fire,” said SportsRocker Jimmy Page. “They played outstanding volleyball, throughout the day. The level of volleyball being played on Saipan is getting better every week.”

In the Men’s Division it was “Dig Dug” Mauro and Bill “Me Later” Owens who beat out the tough duo of Russ Quinn and Blaine Rogers to capture the Men’s Division. Mauro and Owens cruised through the championship without losing a game in the tournament.

“Mauro and Owens played really well together. With that kind of teamwork they will be tough to beat in future tournaments,” continued Page.

The early favorite for victory team of Ted Nugent and Jimmy Page struggled to a disappointing 5th place finish after losing their final game to Neil Mckay and his partner.

“We just couldn’t get it going. The jump serves weren’t working, the big hits, and ferocious blocks just weren’t coming together. We’ll be better next time,” said Nugent.

Sponsors for the tournament included Pacific Trading, Tinian Dynasty Hotel, Club Elan, Gold’s Gym, PIC, Coffee Care, and The Thai House.

SportsRock is locally produced talk radio that features SportsRockers Ted Nugent and Jimmy Page. SportsRock airs Monday nights at 7:00 p.m. on The Rock 97.9.
