Suspects Victormarie R. Santa Monica and Allan E. Rodeo pled not guilty before the Superior Court in connection with the Oct. 29 robbery of a Japanese residence in Chalan Kiya.

Mr. Santa Monica remains in detention for failure to post a $31,500 cash bail while Mr. Rodeo has posted a property bond and released in the custody of his wife.

Police believe that two more suspects, Glenn L. Quiobe and Joselito A. Ambat, have fled to the Philippines.

During the preliminary hearing, police investigator Dwaine Stephen said the alleged robbers who ransacked the residence of Junko and Iwao Sakai ran away with $11,000 in cash and $20,000 worth of jewelry. They also used the Toyota 4Runner owned by the Japanese couple as a getaway vehicle.

The police said Ms. Sakai was awakened at around 1:00 p.m. with the masked robbers inside the house. Two of the robbers were wearing Halloween mask.

According to Mr. Stephen, the recovery of a silver coin from a goldsmith in Gualo Rai led them to the immediate resolution of the case. The goldsmith said Mr. Santa Monica brought the silver coin to his shop to be converted into a pendant. The gold coin was recovered from a certain “Joselito” at Mike’s Jewelry in San Antonio.

After learning about the residence of Mr. Santa Monica, the police invited the suspect to the beach for an interview. Since the suspect will have to attend to an appointment at the Department of Labor, the police investigator met Mr. Santa Monica again on a beach in San Jose and later on in Garapan.

During the interview with the police, Mr. Santa Monica admitted his participation in the crime and gave the watch they took during the robbery.

Mr. Santa Monica and Mr. Rodeo are facing seven counts of criminal charges which include robbery, burglary, theft, assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery. (LFR)
