Armed men rob laundromat in Chalan Piao
Two armed men robbed a laundry establishment in Chalan Piao and fled with $1,000 in cash on Oct. 29, 2000 at around 11:00 p.m.
According to a police report, Korean national Youn Seong, 65, who works at Marianas Washland, suffered scratches and a sprained ankle apparently as a result of a scuffle.
Capt. Delbert Sablan said the men were allegedly armed with rifles when they entered the establishment. Police are asking the people to call Crime Stoppers Hotline if they have any information on the case.
Police are trying to find out whether the recent incident is related to the reported robbery in Chalan Kiya, where two armed men ransacked the residence of a 51-year-old Japanese woman on Oct. 9, 2000.
Based on a police report, Junko Sakai’s hands were tied using a tape and her mouth was gagged. “The description of the suspects were different but we are not discounting the possibility,” said Capt. Sablan.
The suspects ran away with $15,000 in cash, jewelry, including a Rolex watch, and a Toyota Fourunner. The vehicle was later on recovered near Saipan Health Clinic, police said.
