You a Democrat or a Republican?

Many of us profess to be Democrats or Republicans but rarely understand what they stand for. We believe in one or the other much like we embrace our religious beliefs. Our parents were so, therefore I will be also. Consequently, too often we vote the same way without understanding the issues as though we were blind and deaf. As long as the candidate is a member of the “clan,” we vote for him.

What is the philosophy of a Democrat or a Republican rarely crosses our mind. Exactly what are their platforms? How are they different? From where did these two parties spring up? What are their positions on current issues? To claim that we are a member of either party demands that we understand the answers to these questions.
