Dr. Michelle Foltz, an orthopedic surgeon, has just joined the Commonwealth Health Center.

Dr. Foltz received her U.S. Board Certification in Orthopedic Surgery in 1985 after completing her Orthopedic Surgery residency at Chicago’s Northwestern University and the University of Pittsburgh.

Dr. Foltz also completed a fellowship in hand surgery at the Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois.

Dr. Foltz has a tremendous amount of experience she collected from all over the world. After working in private practice in Montana, Illinois and Pennsylvania, she went into the heart of Africa to do volunteer work.
She volunteered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and in Transkei, Republic of South Africa. She has been a consultant orthopedic surgeon in other exotic locations like Victoria, Seychelles Islands, Indian Ocean and most recently in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.

CHC has been without an orthopedic surgeon for over one year which only shows the difficulty in looking for a qualified physician in this unique specialty. The island’s only hospital can now diagnose and treat a wide variety of orthopedic patients, particularly those with diseases of the hand.
