New psychiatrist for mental health

Dr. Sachdev Somiah Arrived this week and has signed a long-term contract to provide full-time psychiatry services at CHC and the Division of Mental Health, joining Dr. Anthony Bottone who heads the Department of Psychiatry.

Dr. Somiah is US Board-eligible in Psychiatry. He completed his US training at the University of Illinois in Chicago, where he had special training in women’s mental health, psycho pharmacology, and crisis intervention.

Saipan has a very ethnically and culturally diverse population, with unique differences in the presentation of mental health. Dr. Somiah comes well-equipped to tackle this, as he has had broad exposure to different cultures all over the world.

He studied internal medicine and psychiatry in his native India before taking a three-year position as a junior attending psychiatrist in Antigua in the Caribbean.
