CUC crew facing various charges quits
Commonwealth Utilities Corporation employee Elias E. Sabino, under investigation by the police for an incident that took place July 23 while at work has resigned, according to its executive director, Timothy P. Villagomez.
But CUC is still awaiting a report from the Department of Public Safety on the incident before taking actions on the 32-year-old utility crew, he said.
Mr. Sabino, who worked for the CUC’s power division, was arrested by the police for DUI, resisting arrest, obstructing justice and fleeing the scene of a damaged property, based on a police report.
He was driving a 1999 Kenworth Augur boom truck when he hit a utility pole along Papago, causing power outage and hydraulic fuel spill that required cleanup of that long stretch of road, the report said.
CUC immediately suspended Mr. Sabino, a nine-year veteran who was once employee of the year, due to the one-vehicle accident.
He, however, handed in his resignation last Friday, said Mr. Villagomez, adding that he does not know whether it has been accepted by the human resources office which handles the matter.
“There is a process to go through in making sure that everything has been cleared,” he told in an interview yesterday. “As far as what CUC has taken, we are waiting for the report from the investigation.”
Asked whether Mr. Sabino would be penalized by the utility corporation despite his decision to leave, Mr. Villagomez said that once the report is completed, CUC legal counsels will study the matter.
“There are some costs associated because of this incident. We are waiting for that cost to be finalized and submitted to my office,” he added.
